Happy 2012, everyone! It’s time to start your year with a brand new episode of the PLA Radio podcast! This episode tells you all about our adventures of irritating Target shoppers during the 2011 holiday season. Prepare to be surprised at how easy it is to create your own cordless phone extension at your local Target store so that you can answer calls for customers.
The internet’s latest social media craze is known as Foursquare. Foursquare is an application designed for most smart phones and can be downloaded at foursquare.com. Whenever you arrive at a bar or restaurant or store, you press a button on your phone and you’re “checked in” to that location. Why would you do this? We don’t know, but apparently billions of people all over the world are really into broadcasting their locations to the public. Just look at all these check-ins below:

By going to search.twitter.com, you can type in 4sq.com and you’ll get a list of everyone on the planet that is currently checking in to someplace. You can even modify your search to include only local businesses. This is great for creepy stalkers who want to keep tabs on random pretty girls. A creepy stalker could jump in his car and speed to the pub for a chance to meet the girl of his dreams. Everywhere she goes.

Another use for Foursquare is for burglars to know when houses are empty. If @sexygirl535 is out having fun with her friends at a bar, then she’s not home, right? So quick, drive over there and break into her house! You know she doesn’t have roommates because she constantly tweets about how it sucks to live alone. A website called Please Rob Me has been set up for just this purpose.

And then there’s the PLA’s favorite pasttime – making prank calls to people. Foursquare is the perfect tool for this. In that search box up there, you click on the Twitter username which probably gives you the name of the person checking in. Then you click on the link in their post and you’ll have the phone number of the business they’re at. Now you can call the business, ask for that person and say something crazy to them. They’re almost always surprised that anyone could know that they’re there. It rarely occurs to them that just minutes ago they transmitted their location to the entire world. Listen to these:

Foursquare type applications are becoming more popular every day. Yelp.com and loopt.com have a similar service that lets you check in to places you’re visiting. A site called blippy.com lets people transmit what they’re purchasing on their credit cards in real time which could allow someone to know where they’re shopping at. You may notice other similar services showing up in your friends twitter and facebook feeds. When you see a friend check in on Foursquare, it is your duty to prank call them at that place.

The PLA is constantly raising awareness to the security and privacy issues of Foursquare by prank calling as many users as we can. Many users immediately stop using Foursquare after our calls. This is a public service to them since a simple prank call is harmless compared to what could happen to them. Help join the cause by pranking Foursquare users for the greater good! Don’t let the rapists and burglars get to them before we do!

Join us in the Let’s Stalk People! message board.

I’m From The Future! Gil gets a call from himself in the future, warning him of dire consequences if he buys Tylenol. Gil doesn’t believe himself.

Red Cross Telemarketing Shaggy gets a telemarketing call from the Red Cross while eating at Royal Thai Cuisine.

Stalker warning for Nicole Nicole is getting a pedicure when she gets a call from a Foursquare representative, warning her not to post her location to the public.

Please Leave Blockbuster tells Sabrina that she’s no longer welcome in their stores. She posted a series of tweets after this calls which went like this: “Just had the dumbest prank played on me thx to foursquare! Guy called Blockbuster, asked for me, told me he was from Corp. & that I wasn’t…..welcome there, and how to leave the store! Just a reminder to be careful on foursquare updates! Seriously though! If that had been real, I would have been SO insulted! Just beware of any weird calls if you check-in on foursquare!”

Roy the Internet Stalker Carlie is surprised to get a call from an internet stalker and decides on the phone not to use Foursquare anymore.

Something I forgot to mention in this episode is that it’s easy to locate Wal-Mart store phones by looking at the support poles up near the ceiling. Poles that have phones on them are wrapped with blue tape. Poles that have fire extinguishers on them are wrapped with red tape. And to get on the all-store page, you need to dial #96.

There’s a whole page on having fun with store phones located at www.phonelosers.org/article/storephones/.

In the spirit of unauthorized PLA Radio episodes, here’s a little unauthorized PLA TV made by Trevelyn, advertising the most recent episode of PLA Radio.

And speaking of PLA TV, YouTube’s Related Videos on Trevelyn’s video shows a bunch of EvilCal‘s old videos that I haven’t seen in a few years, from when he posed as a reporter for phonelosers.org at an Iraq war protest. Watch those too!

Part 1
Part 4

And finally, there’s a new podcast out called Security Justice. It deals with all kinds of phone and hacker topics, including a little piece about voice authentication which was breaking news in PLA Radio Episode #17. Their show can be found at securityjustice.com.

I spend a couple evenings calling every Blockbuster Video in Orange County to prove him wrong. This show is a collection of some of the more informative and entertaining of those calls, plus some voicemails, promos and the best cactus mix you’ve ever heard. This podcast is 29 minutes long and is about 27.2 megs.

The piano music played throughout this episode is the theme from The O.C., also known as California by Phantom Planet. The Cactus Mix background track is by Jay-Z and is called Squeeze 1st. The song on the end is California Love by Tupac and Dr. Dre.

Bonus Outtake! There were a ton of calls made to the various Blockbusters around Orange County but I couldn’t play them all or the show would have been really long and boring. One of the more amusing clips was my girlfriend Jammie attempting to social engineer a Blockbuster out of their password. It was her first attempt ever at social engineering anything and you get to hear her whine a bunch and shake and get cold sweats as I give her a pep talk. Click here to listen to it.

They succeed, but are thrown into jail for a few months, pending trial. The involuntary manslaughter charges are dropped, but the phone calls are still hilarious. This podcast is approximately 19 minutes long. Click here to listen to it.

In this episode you’ll hear the best of our movie theater prank calls. You’ll also hear the song Guilty Deter which was parodied by RBCP and performed by Rob T. Firefly. You’ll also hear Rob’s remix of one of the theater pranks and an ad from our old Switch campaign.

I just took a look through the phonelosers.org access logs for the past month to see how the show was doing. From February 1st, 2006 to March 3rd, 2006, here’s a breakdown of the numbers:

Episode #1 (Brady Bunch, released on Feb 4th) – 2,319 show downloads made by 1467 unique IP addresses
Episode #2 (Social Engineering, released on Feb 25th) – 1,614 show downloads made by 824 unique IP addresses
Episode #3 (Deaf Relay Operators, released on Jan 31st) – 1,663 show downloads made by 872 unique IP addresses

I was surprised at the numbers – I kind of thought it would be much less. So, you know…thanks for listening! I’m not sure if those numbers are necessarily good, as far as podcasts go. Episode #1 is definitely the most downloaded mp3 file on phonelosers.org this past month, though. I have no plans for future shows. But I didn’t exactly plan these first three either. So we’ll see what the future of PLA Radio brings. Really, though, thanks for listening!

And I’m not sure why the numbers of IP addresses are half of what the downloads are. I can only assume that everyone liked the shows so much that they just had to download them each twice.

I have been a listener of the RBPC Show podcast for months now. No, not just because their show looks like a dyslexic version of my name. It’s a good show! My favorite podcast, in fact. I mentioned their show in my journal awhile back and the guy who runs the show even signed my guestbook to say thanks for listening. So the other day I join their forums and introduce myself. But instead of a nice, normal “hello” I threatened them with defamation of character lawsuits instead. All in good fun, of course. But then the accusations started flying and suddenly I’m the one on trial. There’s too much to explain but go visit the RBPC Show forums and try to sort it out for yourself. I think I’ve decided to give up on proclaiming my innocence. No matter how much I explain, they refuse to believe anything I say.

What really pisses these forum users off is the fact that PLA Radio happens to have more votes than them right now. So even if you hate PLA Radio, click on the button below just for spite. It’ll give Halo something more to freak out about.

3/13/2006 UPDATE: Their forums crashed and they lost all the original posts with the PLA bashing in them. It’s too bad because it was good stuff. But at least I can pretend that I haxed their forums to scare them into being nice to me.
