I don’t know what’s wrong with them either. It’s sad. I’ll figure it all out tonight, though, hopefully. Until then, you should visit the UPL Forums. They aren’t nearly as cool as the PLA Forums, but at least that’ll give you something to do until ours are back. Maybe we could fuck with all the users there or create fake accounts and post spam everywhere.

UPDATE: The forums are back! Now we can stop visiting linear’s dumb forums.

About a year and a half ago, I set up a wiki on phonelosers.org which caused conflicts with other scripts, so I had to remove it. Yesterday I discovered www.wetpaint.com which lets people set up their own wiki. It seems like a perfect solution for someone lazy like me, who doesn’t want to take the time to make it work on my own server correctly. So take a look at phonelosers.wetpaint.com and add whatever you want to it. I’ve also redirected our old wiki address ( phonelosers.org/wiki ) to that URL. And if you’re into wikis, there’s always the PLA entry at wikipedia.com.

In other news, there’s a new PLA TV video up which has absolutely nothing to do with PLA or phones. Makes sense, eh?

phonelosers.org will be undergoing some upgrades over the next few days. Things are likely going to be a little messed up during our transition. The forums will probably be down for awhile, as well as other things like the photo albums, the store and our mp3s. It’ll be complete pandemonium! But hang in there for the next few days and it’ll all be back to normal soon. Hopefully.

EDIT @ 7:28PM PST on Wednesday – The new server is working. Obviously I’ve got WordPress working on it. I can’t make the regular PLA Theme work until I finish getting the forums up. I’m uploading them now and restoring the MySQL database. All is going well so far…

EDIT @ 10:31PM PST on Wednesday – Forums are working, but with the default theme. Most of the phonelosers.org site theme is working again. I’m FTPing a couple gigs of the remaining files as I sleep. Hopefully things will be mostly back to normal at some point tomorrow.

EDIT on Sunday – Photos albums are back and so is the store. I think everything is sort of back to normal now. Please let me know if you spot anything wrong.

Before we get into the prank call contest entries, here’s a quick site update…you can now receive emails whenever new content and updates are posted to phonelosers.org. We were using Feedblitz to accomplish this before, but it was slow and they probably sold your email address to Nigerians. The new system emails you immediately after entries are posted and you’re not giving up your email address to a 3rd party company. You can use the form below to sign up. Or you can just keep using the RSS feed like a normal person.

Now on to the contest entries! There have been quite a few entries that don’t follow the rules of this contest. People are sending in just regular prank calls that have nothing to do with the PLA. And one person send in a deaf relay call transcript. Sorry people, but I’m only accepting PLA-themed prank calls for this contest. Here’s are the current entries.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The wiki is gone! The wiki was causing serious issues with WordPress and I can’t figure out why so I had to take it down. I do plan to put it back up once I get things figured out. I saved the wiki database file before I deleted it, so once it’s back up you can continue where you left off. Sorry about this! Hopefully it will be back very soon. -RBCP

You may not have noticed, but about a month ago phonelosers.org went through some major changes. About 75% of the site now relies on the popular WordPress platform, which probably opens us up to all kinds of brand new security holes! Not much has changed in the overall look of the site, though.

The good news is that the commenting system for every page is working again. RBCP’s shoddy PHP code is gone forever, and replaced with WordPress commenting. And hundreds of dead links have been fixed on the site during the process. Also, you can now subscribe to updates on phonelosers.org by using http://www.phonelosers.org/feed/. You can even register for an account if you’d like, but you don’t need one to comment. In fact, you don’t need an account for anything. It’s pointless to get an account. Why are you bothering??

We switched servers (sort of) this week. A bunch of stuff was down for a day or so but now it’s mostly all back up. You’ll be noticing a few minor changes throughout the site soon. You now have the option of logging in to the site for certain things, I just installed the new shoutbox and I’m working on implementing a new form of commenting onto every page.

If you’re the kind of person that would like to get occasional podcasts from us, then point your podcasting software to our RSS feed. I don’t intend to keep any kind of a regular podcasting schedule, but whenever I add new prank calls or other audio to the web site, I’ll put the new stuff into podcast format in this feed. There are currently 2 podcasted mp3 files in the feed, which are both hotel calls from the previous update. If all goes well, it should appear in your podcastable mp3 player. Since I’m new to this, please let me know if anything isn’t working properly. I’m not even sure if an Ipod will accept our standard mp3 format, which is generally 20 – 32kbps. If you run into any problems with your podcasting software or hardware, please email me.
