PLA’s Voice Bridge is a very basic chat room but it now has a few features! You can press “1″ or “3″ to chat with someone else privately, “2″ to get your private code, “5″ to mute your voice and “4″ to unmute. “#” will tell you how many people are in the conference and “0″ will usually take you back into the bridge. The number is now located in Palmer, Massachusetts and is completely free of charge aside from regular domestic long distance charges. You must be 18 years of age to call this bridge or have your mother dial the call for you. Don’t try to fool us, we card everyone at the door!

Every single night at 8:00pm EST, 5:00pm PST you can call this number and talk to other losers. If there is nobody on the line when you call, just sit in there for awhile and enjoy the silence. Eventually somebody should show up. If nobody shows up just sit there all night with your phone off the hook and hope that someone gets on. Or call up your friend down the street and have him/her get on the bridge so you can both pay long distance rates to talk to each other. If someone on the bridge is causing problems and you’re unable to talk on extension 752, move to 753. If 753 is the same way, try 754. And so on.

11/18/2006: The 413 number is gone now. They’ve changed it to 641-678-3404 so that’s our new number. You can skip through the advertisement by entering in the room number as soon as the guy starts talking.

10/08/2003: YET ANOTHER NEW NUMBER! For some reason, the company that ran our old 918 bridge took down our phone number. So we’re forced to move once again. The new number is 413-370-0333 and works just like the 918 bridge. When you call it, enter the code 752 which spells out PLA.

4/27/2003: NEW NUMBER! We are now using a new service since Beehive Telephone has shut down their bridge. The number is 918-858-0012. When you call it, you have to enter in a 3 digit code. We’ve picked the code 752 since that spells out PLA. Witty, eh? This is the number that will be used until further notice. Please report any problems to us.

1/31/2002: BUSY SIGNALS! Something has been wrong with the bridge for about 2 weeks now. When you call in it seems like you have a 75% chance of getting a busy signal, even when there’s nobody else on the line. I’ve talked to Beehive Telephone (the owners of the line) twice now and this time they promised to look into the problem and see what they can do about it. Hopefully the busy signals will be gone soon. In the meantime, you can call 435-663-TALK instead and that’ll hook you up into the same bridge as 234-TALK. So far I haven’t gotten any busy signals on that number but maybe I’m just lucky.

1/13/2002: Another update, another new number. On our 305-503-6666 number we got a lot of busy signals in the evenings. This is because the bridge was on the same system as a bunch of regular party lines, so when those filled up ours became useless. So I started searching around for a new partyline and I decided to contact Beehive Telephone in Nevada about setting one up for us since they run a lot of partylines and they were the people who gave Defcon their partyline in the mid-90’s. When I got to Beehive’s website I noticed that they actually have a “community bridge” set up where local residents can call in and talk to each other anonymously. It doesn’t seem to be a popular thing there, probably because there are only about 100 people living around there. So the bridge is ours now until they decide to take it away. And hopefully they won’t.

9/19/2001: Okay, so we’ve got another new number now. We just can’t seem to find a voice bridge service that actually works so we’re going to try out this single-room format and see how it goes. On the upside there aren’t any more porn ads before you get into the bridge. On the downside there’s no longer a 24-hour gerbil variety show hosted by Roy, no discussion of house plants room, no Free Nawleed section and there’s no longer a section dedicated solely to talking about PLA’s issue #23. 1/24/2000: We’ve got a new number! The number is now 305-503-7775 and appears to solve our previous problems (hopefully). So give it a call, set up your voice mailboxes and wait around in the chat room for someone to show up. Excuse the fruity “on hold” music you hear while waiting in the rooms and the old messages you hear on the voice discussion board. We’re apparently taking over an old sex line or something.

1/13/2000: Apparently there are some problems with the voice bridge which are being worked out as we speak. The main problem is that the actual voice bridge areas don’t even work. If you enter a room and someone else is in there with you, you won’t be able to talk to them. You’ll be able to tell how many people are in the room but you won’t be able to hear or talk so that sorta makes for a boring conference.

Then there are a few minor problems such as bridges 4 through 9 are completely broken leaving only the first three semi-working. No biggie there but that will be fixed soon. Also some of the prompts are missing such as the discussion board prompts (option #2 from the “lobby”) that tell you how to record a message for everyone to hear. It’s option #3 by the way. We also seem to have a “personals” section for lesbians which we will change or remove eventually.

The free voice mailboxes are working perfectly BUT if you set one up you shouldn’t plan on having it forever yet. The problems we’re having may cause us to move to a different system and/or change telephone numbers meaning that your box and all messages could disappear soon. So you might want to wait until you hear an update on the voice discussion board or on this page.
