202|DC|Washington, DC|202 is the North American telephone area code for Washington, D.C. It was one of the area codes originally assigned in October 1947.
203|CT|Connecticut|Before 1995, 203 covered all of Connecticut, but now it only covers the southwest of the state.
204|MB|Manitoba, Canada|This area code covers the mystical land of Canada, including Winnipeg.

212|NY|New York, New York|212 is one of the original area codes assigned in 1947, given to New York because it was the easiest number to dial on a rotary dial phone.  Apparently even back then, New Yorkers felt entitled to things like that.  Today 212 only covers Manhattan.
213|CA|Los Angeles, California|This area code once covered all of southern California, all the way to the Mexican border and was one of only 3 area codes in the state.  That only lasted a few years, though, and now there are nearly 16 billion area codes in southern California.  Today 213 covers downtown Los Angeles.
214|TX|Dallas, Texas|214 originally covered a giant portion of Texas, but due to Texas banning the use of all birth control, it was quickly split into many other area codes.  Dallas shares 214 with 972 and 469.
215|PA|Philadelphia, Pennsylvania|This area code serves the city of Philadelphia and some of its suburbs.
216|OH|Cleveland, oHIo|Here's one of the original area codes assigned to oHIo.  You know what's high in the middle and round on the sides?  A penis!

228|MS|Gulfport, Mississippi|This was the second Mississippi area code, created in 1997, when it was split off from the original area code 601, which had covered the entire state.
229|GA|Albany, Georgia|229 was originally a part of 912.  It covers all the parts of Georgia that nobody ever goes to.

240|MD|Gaithersburg, Maryland|Area code 301 was one of the original area codes established in 1947, and was the exclusive area code for Maryland until it was split to form 410 on October 6, 1991. The overlay area code 240 was introduced on June 1, 1997.
248|MI|Royal Oak, Michigan|Area 248 was split off from 810 in 1997. In 2002, area code 947 was overlaid on it.
250|BC|Shalalth, British Columbia, Canada|Area code 250 is an area code for most of the Canadian province of British Columbia, including Vancouver Island. It was created on October 19, 1996 as a split of area code 604.  The area code also serves the United States city of Hyder, Alaska.
251|AL|Mobile, Alabama|251 was created on June 18, 2001, as a split from area code 334.
252|NC|Greenville, North Carolina|252 covers the northeastern corner of the State of North Carolina and includes the cities and towns of Greenville, Kitty Hawk, Rocky Mount, New Bern, Roanoke Rapids, Henderson, Wilson and Elizabeth City. It was split from area code 919 on March 22, 1998.
253|WA|Tacoma, Washington|253 serves the suburbs south of Seattle and of the southern Puget Sound area, centered at Tacoma and extending to include the areas around Gig Harbor, Auburn, and ROY.  The area code went into service on April 27, 1997, as part of a three-way split of area code 206.
254|TX|Waco, Texas|This Waco area code was created May 25, 1997, in a split from area code 817.
256|AL|Huntsville, Alabama|This area code was created in 1998 as a split from 205.
